New Climate and Sustainability Report: How Tellco pk makes sustainable investments measurable

How sustainably are pension assets invested? As a pension fund, Tellco pk bears responsibility for the long-term security of pension assets while at the same time considering their impact on the environment and society.

The new Climate and Sustainability Report of Tellco pk transparently shows how sustainability criteria are incorporated into the investment strategy, what progress has been achieved and how sustainability is measured in practice.

Sustainability as an integral part of the investment strategy

For Tellco pk, sustainability is not an isolated topic but a fixed component of the investment process. ESG criteria – environmental, social and governance factors – are systematically integrated into the analysis of investments as well as into risk management.

Tellco pk pursues several approaches in this context:

  • Integration of ESG criteria into the investment process
  • Exclusion of certain business areas, for example companies with relevant revenues from coal production
  • Positive screening, in which companies with particularly strong ESG ratings are preferred
  • Thematic investments in sustainable infrastructure and future technologies

This approach aims to ensure that investments are not only financially attractive but also responsible in the long term.

Climate metrics create transparency

A central component of the sustainability report is the disclosure of climate data. This makes it possible to measure the climate impact of investments transparently and compare it with reference indices.

One example is the equity investments of Tellco pk. These show a greenhouse gas intensity of 87 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents per million Swiss francs of revenue, which is below the corresponding reference index.

Such metrics help to better understand the CO₂ exposure of a portfolio and make progress in decarbonisation measurable.

Sustainable infrastructure with tangible impact

In addition to listed investments, Tellco pk also invests specifically in sustainable infrastructure projects. These investments are intended to enable long-term returns while also making a positive contribution to the energy transition and to social infrastructure.

As at mid-2025, more than CHF 164 million has been invested in over 125 sustainable infrastructure projects.

These investments include, among others:

  • Wind energy projects in Sweden
  • Photovoltaic installations in Southern Europe
  • Hydropower projects in Switzerland
  • Battery storage solutions for renewable energy
  • Social infrastructure, for example projects in the area of retirement living

A large share of these investments focuses on renewable energy projects and therefore contributes to the decarbonisation of energy supply.

 Responsibility as an active investor

Sustainable investing does not only mean investing in certain companies or excluding them. Active dialogue with companies is equally important.

Tellco pk fulfils its responsibility as an investor by allowing its asset managers to exercise voting rights and by participating in engagement processes.

In the reporting year, voting rates were 96 per cent in Switzerland and 85 per cent abroad. In this way, investors can influence corporate decisions and promote more sustainable business models.

 Greater transparency through standardised reporting

The Climate and Sustainability Report of Tellco pk follows the ASIP ESG Reporting Standard. This standard serves as a guideline for pension funds to ensure transparent and comparable sustainability reporting.

The report covers around 70 per cent of assets with ESG metrics. For these investments, climate data, energy indicators and other sustainability metrics are disclosed, among others.

The objective is to continuously increase transparency and further improve the data basis for sustainable investment decisions.

Sustainable pensions as a long-term task

The integration of sustainability criteria into asset management is an ongoing process. Regulation, data availability and market standards are continuously evolving – as are the possibilities for measuring and implementing sustainability.

With the new Climate and Sustainability Report, Tellco pk demonstrates how it continues along this path and continuously develops its strategy.
